Inspired by The Little Prince, my goal for this collection is to reconsider the 'office uniform', in all its neutral, modest, practical and socially acceptable glory. Bringing some in a small element of the Prince's curious approach to life and expansive wonder, the collection considers what corporate wear could look like in an alien world, on an asteroid far away from the Little Prince's, reimagining collars, ties, stripes, pencil skirts, shirt plackets and more.
My muse for this project is ‘The Little Prince’. In the beginning of the year we were asked to bring three objects of significance to class with us and my copy of the book was part of this trio. Stories were a significant part of my childhood, bedtime stories were non-negotiable and became a way for us to connect as a family. The Little Prince is one of the few stories that have followed me on my journey to adulthood. As someone who easily gets swept up by the demands of daily life- deadlines, social obligations, chores, personal finances, the list goes on endlessly- Antoine de-Saint Exupery’s nonsensically no-nonsense book is a quick read that without fail, helps me disconnect from these consuming thoughts and whisks my away to another universe.
The main character of this story is characterized by his childlike sense of wonder and untainted, curious approach to life. Through his interactions with the other characters, he helps them question their priorities and values, teaching them to view the world with an open heart. Bridging the gap between the innocence of childhood and the complexities of adulthood, the Little Prince’s story is an invitation to reconnect with your inner child in this ever-so-busy world.
